    Nice review, the 14-140 is hard to beat. It’s definitely been carefully considered in how it was engineered with a balance of performance and portability. Pana could have done a 12-200mm but they didn’t, probably because of what was all shown in this video. I really like Panasonics 12-35mm f2.8 lens though.

    I shoot with APS-C, Full Frame, & Micro 4/3, depending on the situation & my mood. I particularly like Micro 4/3 for walkaround street shooting, for the size/weight & especially the greater depth of field it offers. I walk around with a wide angle set at f8 or f11, rarely giving focus much thought.

    The 35-100 f4-5.6 (H-FS35100E) actually does have Dual IS - in fact it has full Dual IS2 functionality since the 1.3 version of the firmware back in July 2020. Dual IS was implemented in this lens as long ago as December 2015 I have this lens and the 35-100 2.8ii 'Pro' version and honestly, they are both fantastic lenses. I use the f4-5.6 along with the 12-32 on my GX and have the perfect travel setup. The 2 2.8 lenses I pair with the G9 (now G9ii) for the sturdier build, weathersealing and so on

    FF is not everything. But MFT is not either. To say it is so compact and less costly is simply saying nothing, because there are many factors that affect everybody differently. For me for instance: I want serious gear to photograph birds in flight and wildlife as a hobby enthusiast. Low light performance, great AF , at a budget of $5000. I chose Canon. R7 with a speedbooster on a used EF 500 F4 is mk1 gives me a 550mm F2.8 equivalent with F4 DOF for $ 3000 all in. If I use it bare, I have 800mm F4 equivalent with F5.6 DOF. Add a used EF 1.4 TC iii and I have 1120mm equivalent F8! The TC and a used EF100-400 L ii set me back another $2000. With that setup I have equipment that outperforms my ability. And I can buy a FF body and use it on those lenses if I want in future, or I can invest in some awesome RF glass in future… That is me, others will see it differently. I don’t walk around with my camera and a 35mm lens in case. I just use my phone. But when I get a chance to go into the bush…

    Good list! I've been using M4/3 cameras years. Recently bought a Sony A7iV at a heavily discounted price out of curiosity. Quickly discovered one key advantage of M4/3 that I wish I had known -- the sensor readout speed. I use electronic shutter by default with my M4/3 cameras (OM-1 and EM5iii). One major reason for me to use mirrorless cameras is to be able to shoot fast and silently. With Sony A7iV or other low to mid-range full frame cameras, you better just avoid using electronic shutter and use mechanical shutter by default to avoid rolling shutter and banding under artificial light. OM-1's sensor readout speed is 8X faster than A7iV. Even my older E-M5 iii is 4X faster. Unfortunately A7iV also have a very loud mechanical shutter sound, and the shooting experience feels sluggish coming from M4/3. For me to enjoy the benefits of electronic shutter with full frame cameras, I'll have to shell out BIG bucks for full frame stacked sensor cameras.

    Hi Gary. I have been an Olympus fanboy and I have many of their cameras. But, I have seen so much about Panasonic cameras on your channel as well as others, that I decided to spent $200 and purchase an old Lumix G6. Well I fell in love with the operating system and the user friendliness of the camera, that it became my "go to" camera. So now I bought a Lumix G85 on MPB for only $327.00! I wanted a weather sealed camera with IBIS. I have not yet received my new camera, but I am very excited to be getting it. Thanks for bringing me the wonderful world of Lumix cameras. The only thing I have against them is how big they are. Even your GX85 is big when compared against many Olympus cameras.... I will keep you updated as to my experiences with my G85.

    A new GX with all the features mentioned would be an instant buy for me. I was pretty set on getting a G9, and then by coincidence I went on a trip with a group of friends and one of them had one. After trying it, it reminded me of why I got into Micro Four Thirds in the first place. The G9 is a great camera, but it felt too big. Sticking with my GX8 for now, which felt really compact in comparison, and even the GX8 is large when compared to my old GX1.

    Hi Gary! I have watched several of your reviews and am seeking advice. My goal is to have 2 lenses that will be suited for family gatherings and traveling with a goal of shooting landscapes, flowers, animals, northern lights/night sky, and distance things (we are going on an Alaskan cruise and I would like to have the ability to shoot land from the boat as well as things in the water). I am also hoping to film exercise videos for my youtube channel (camera on tripod and me in a chair) and would love it one of the two lenses I purchase work for that as well. I could also see myself printing a few shots, no larger than like 14x20. From my research, the G95 fits all my needs. I am leaning toward the 14-140 and 75-300. Would I ever miss the 12-60 for my purposes?

Those situations pop up a lot during the day for visiting shrines, temples, caves, historic buildings etc. so it’s great to keep one in the bag always. The 14-140 is a champ, even for some wildlife photography. And the Laowa 7.5mm, excellent for giving context to narrow streets and walkways, even very close to”macro” for camera-tolerant subjects. Thanks for helping me settle on this combo with all your travel videos, Gary!

    How would you think, about G100 without ibis VS GX85 with ibis? I will be overseas, travelling light, doing my workplace's handheld video documentary next month. GX85 is perfect for me if it wasn't the lack of microphone hole. G100 is perfect if it wasn't for lack for IBIS... The only perfect MFT for my dilemma is G95. But the size made me consider, if the size as big as G95, why not bringing A7III.

    • @cristinasd8051
      @cristinasd8051 9 дней назад

      The G90 is a nice, lightweight camera, even if it is a bit "big" in MFT standards. The upside you will get is that MFT lenses are small and light vs FF lenses.

      I had the same problem when I went for a trip a week ago. Had my Sony A7C with Tamron 28-200, Zeiss 16-35/4 and Zeiss 55/1.7 as a back-up plan, but ditched them. I went with a Pana GX880 (same as GX850), Oly E-M1, Laowa 7,5/2 Olympus 9-18, Olympus 20/1,7 and a Olympus 14-150/slow. In the end the sun was almost always too harsh so I had to use the viewfinder on the E-M1. Didn't use the small GX880 that much. For 90% I used the Olympus E M1 and the slow but very sharp 14-150. 6% usage of the 9-18 and 2% each of the 7,5mm and the 20mm. The Olympus OM-D E-M1 was lighter than the Sony 7C by some grams, but the lenses were so much lighter. I had four batteries for the EM-1 with me but used only two. So one camera an two lenses would have been good enough. Oly E-M1, 9-18, 14-150. In weight: 490g + 155g + 270g = 930g. Not bad. This will make it easier next time.

    • @Gary_W
      @Gary_W 7 дней назад

      It really depends on your needs. If you record a lot of dialogue videos, then G100 might makes more sense. However, if you record B rolls that don't require sophisticated audio capture, then the GX85 is the better choice. I have the G85 which has both IBIS and audio jack, but I don't really travel with it unless I have to. Hope this helps! 😁

      If you are only using single AF, then it's not really bad. Focus hunting only occurs when you are using continuous AF. I only use single AF and record mostly 1080p and the GX85 works fine in that situation. Hope this helps!

    go back to basics. rather than going out with 3+ lenses and a tripod, just take a standard prime. give yourself limits.

    I have four cameras and tens of lenses. Five days ago I decided to write a computer program which picks me randomly one camera and one lens for that camera and then I take that combination for my photo walk. Perhaps this method can help me to have fun and develop my skills too. I have to use one lens which perhaps has totally different focal length that I am accustomed to. I haven't used this method much yet. But that's my new idea to give a try, at least sometimes. 😎 This also makes me to use my whole camera gear not just my favorite camera and favorite lenses.

    I agree with you man. Panasonic needs to put the "Micro" back in M4/3. A GX8/GX9 styled compact weather sealed body with the new 25mp PD sensor is needed. I still can't believe Fuji is just going unchallenged in this segment. If we get this, I would definitely buy one.

      I love how you said "put the Micro back in M4/3", that's exactly what needs to happen 😁

    They should update the Lumix DC-G110 with in body image stabilization and the new sensor as well as autofocus for under 1000 $ would be a perfect camera.

      I agree, either a GX style camera with IBIS and audio jack, or a G100 successor camera with IBIS.

    Put the micro back in micro four thirds! That means updating the olympus 17mm 1.8 with a sharper version, the 9-18, just all the small stuff that's gotten old

      Agree, put the Micro back in M4/3 😁 They re-released the 9-18mm a few months ago, but not quite sure if there's any improvement in IQ or if they fix the ribbon cable issue.
